Cat Doodle Jump Obstacles: Bugs, Birds, Kites & Balloons
Learn when each obstacle appears, how impacts affect your jump and how to bounce safely from the top of a balloon.

Four obstacles at a glance
| Obstacle | Available from | Behavior | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flying bug | 600 | Sideways sway, 45-pixel amplitude, 2.4-second cycle | Short sideways push; keeps vertical momentum |
| Bird | 1,500 | 85–115 pixels/second across the board; 0.8-second edge warning | Interrupts upward motion and pushes sideways |
| Kite | 3,000 | Predictable horizontal and vertical sway | Sideways push; halves upward speed |
| Balloon | 5,000 | Drifts upward with a small sideways sway | Side/bottom bumps push you away; descending onto the green top bounces you upward |
These are unlock heights, not guaranteed spawn points. Obstacles are chosen probabilistically as new height bands are reached. Waiting on a low platform does not continuously create more obstacles.
What to do after a hit
An impact does not directly end the run. You get 0.9 seconds of protection from another damaging impact, shown by a brief flicker. Steer toward a lower green ledge rather than immediately chasing the next one. You lose only when the cat falls below the board.
Damage is suppressed near safe landing zones and in the protected area above springs. Foreground obstacles use smaller collision areas than their drawings. Decorative kite strings are not collision lines.
Read a bird before crossing
The warning appears at the edge from which a bird will enter. Birds fly a fixed horizontal route rather than chasing you. Avoid wrapping into that edge while the warning is visible; align with a lower platform if your upward route would cross the bird.
Use a balloon as a bonus jump
The green cap identifies the usable top. Descend onto it from above, just as you would land on a platform. A successful bounce launches at 680 pixels/second and removes that balloon. Side or underside contact gives no bonus bounce.
Five balloon landings in one run earn Balloon jumper. Keep a platform below as a backup, because the balloon is moving. The medal guide explains the remaining challenges.
Recognise the foreground shapes

These are the actual obstacle art assets, shown enlarged for recognition. They are not four objects placed together in a recorded run. Background scenery can use similar themes; only foreground game objects collide.
How busy does the sky get?
| Height band | Spawn check spacing | Chance per check | Maximum active objects |
|---|---|---|---|
| 600–1,499 | 400 height | 45% | 1 |
| 1,500–2,999 | 350 height | 60% | 2 |
| 3,000–4,999 | 300 height | 70% | 2 |
| 5,000+ | 280 height | 80% | 3 |
A successful check chooses from the types unlocked at that height. The active-object cap can suppress a spawn. These probabilities do not guarantee a particular encounter at a particular score, and waiting below a new threshold does not add fresh checks.
Recover instead of chasing the hit
After a bird interrupts your jump, your immediate job is to find a lower landing. Kites reduce upward momentum, so a ledge that looked reachable before contact may no longer be your next target. Bug nudges preserve vertical momentum but change your sideways position.
Do not deliberately chase impacts to make ordinary progress. The Nine lives medal is an optional one-run challenge, not a requirement for unlocking height medals. Impact protection lasts briefly and does not prevent falling out of the board.
